ARTIST BIO
Elijah Ross is a visual artist from Kansas City, Missouri, with a specific focus on painting. His father was a graffiti artist and, alongside his contemporaries, was responsible for helping to establish the scene within Kansas City. This unique upbringing fostered an early interest in the visual arts and encouraged idiosyncratic personal expression. Building a hyper-specific visual identity was held in high regard around the household. Elijah was introduced to a wide gambit of jazz, hip hop, photography, and illustrations, all focusing on the “odd” or “weird.” This all led and culminated in enrollment in The School of the Art Institute of Chicago for a Bachelors in Fine Art, where his practice began to take shape, and his interest in archetypal and self-mythologized work solidified-- taking with him the influence of graphic artists and their techniques and merging it within the historical context of oil painting. His practice centralizes itself around creating experiential moments, collective myths, and human emotional response.
